The heart of Derby's Maker community
Derby Makers is a group meeting at the Derby Silk Mill every Wednesday.
Please note! The Silk Mill will be closing to the general public, inc Derby Makers from the end of April, for the next 2-3 years “Museum of Making” renovations. Our last members evening at the Silk Mill will be the 26th of April. We are currently finalising our new home and will post the details here once they are confirmed. See our forum for related conversations.
All are welcome – the group is aimed at any maker, including craft, electronics, robotics, woodworking, model making and so on.
Our intent is to maintain and grow a local community of people who have an interest in making something regardless of any existing skills or experience. We already have members who are knowledgeable in woodwork, knitting, cooking, electronics, home automation, programming, rope-making and many other skills, and we all enjoy sharing what we know and learning something new or just have a good chat.
The Silk Mill can be found just off of Full street in the centre of Derby, on the banks of the river Derwent.
There is usually someone there from 6:00pm on a meeting night.
We are an informal group, but to look after the running of the group and to manage day-to-day affairs we have an internal group known as the Steering Committee, which includes the formal positions of Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. The Steering Committee is made up of a maximum of 12 members, with 11 places currently taken. If you’d like to have a voice on the committee please let us know.
